Happy Day Card

Hello Nesters!  It's Dawn here with a card tutorial and challenge.  Lately, I've been absolutely fascinated with making cards (and it's crazy because I used to be afraid of them!).  Today, I'm going to share a card I made using products from the new a•muse spring accessories catalog.

I started by cutting a sheet of 8.5 x 11 sugar cardstock in half width-wise.  I then cut one of pieces in half to make the card front:

I scored the larger piece of cardstock down the middle to make an A2 card:

Next, I used washi tape to hold down my dies before running the card front through my die cut machine:

I'm going to use the negative space for this card, so I'm saving the positive die cuts for another project.  I saved the little pieces for inside the letters (you can see the small pile of them to the left of the card front), but I ended up liking the words better without them.

I then cut a piece of patterned paper from the everything's rosy 6x6 paper pack to fit the card front (so it measured 4.25" by 5.5"):

I then measured eyeballed (I'm lazy...I'll admit it!) where I needed to put the super-stick double-sided tape so it would just be under the word "DAY":

Once I had the tape applied, I peeled off the red backing and covered the sticky surface with bubblegum glitter.  I used a bone folder to rub the glitter so that it was adhered securely:

I knew I wanted to keep this card simple, but I also knew I wanted to add a little bit of an embellishment.  I decided to make a bow out of this organdy polka dot ribbon:

Finally, the card was ready to be assembled.  I added the patterned paper to the card base with a tape runner and used lots of foam tape for the card front:

And, once more, here is the finished product:

Here's a close-up where you can see the glitter shimmer a bit:

Initially, I was planning on adding the glitter to white cardstock, but I'm glad I decided to add it to the patterned paper - I'm really pleased with the finished product.

A Valentine Card

Hello Nesters!  I'm so excited to be back!  The end of 2013 got a little bit crazy, and I decided to take a break from blogging.  Thankfully, things are settling down so I'm back at the Nest.

Today, I'm sharing a simple card I made for a Valentine swap:

I have three boys, so I really enjoy any excuse to use pink.  :)

I even made a short video of the card-making process.  (Please excuse my voice in the video...I'm fighting allergies + a sinus infection.)

Did you create any cards for Valentine's Day?
